"California ideology" was proposed by British media theorists Richard Parbrook and Andy Cameron in 1995, and was originally a critic of neo-liberalism rooted in techno-utopia. Their criticism is that they were born by "the bizarre mix of San Francisco's cultural bohemianism and the Silicon Valley's high-tech industry" and "unleash the bouncy spirit of the hippies with the corporate ambition of the yuppies".
