If you thought the #DeleteFacebook movement was a genuine revolution against Facebook and illegal government oversight, I'm afraid you have been deceived.
For starters, government agencies and high-level corporations are always spying on you. Just because one company got caught doing it doesn't mean that others have ceased their nefarious activities. Or have we forgotten the lessons of the NSA and the whole Edward Snowden scandal?
Second, people need to understand the actual violation that Facebook committed, and not just respond emotionally to rumors. Facebook indirectly committed privacy violation by essentially allowing a marketing research firm to give their data-mined info (data mining is not illegal under Facebook's policy) to another marketing research firm (this transfer is illegal).
Is Facebook the only company in the world to violate privacy laws? If you think so, then how the hell are we getting inundated with telemarketing call after telemarketing call, and spam email after spam email?
But here's the kicker...
If you followed through on the #DeleteFacebook movement, that makes you an even bigger target for government agencies.
How so?
Because unlike the billions of lazy, apathetic individuals who are not deleting their Facebook accounts, you chose to do so. You are the minority. You stuck your head out amid a sea of lemmings.
The evil irony behind it all is that you thought you were "opting out of the system." Sadly, you just opted in because your deletion signaled to the government that you are willing to act on a conspiracy. Therefore, you will draw more careful attention.
And don't think that deleting your Facebook will give you more privacy from the government. Facebook is the government. We all know what happens when you don't pay your taxes...
Moving forward, you should question the narrative.
Perhaps you may have been biased because you enjoy the Steemit network so much. But let me just drop a kind #truthbomb...with nearly two years in, with all sorts of media attention, Steemit doesn't have anywhere close to a million active users.
Hell, you don't even have many active followers because most of your followers are fake!
I understand that the emotions of supporting Steemit may have clouded your judgment on #DeleteFacebook. That's fine...it happens. Moving forward, though, we should all acknowledge that our elitist government watchdogs are a lot smarter than people give them credit for.
And this movement is a prime example. Just when you think you're part of something revolutionary, it turns out that you're simply playing into the government's hands.
