Finally, people are starting to wake up to the dangers of predatory data mining. Unsurprisingly, it required the partisan fuel of the 2016 election and the specter of 'interference' to ignite our collective rage. But we'll take the awakening anyway we can get it.

Facebook has turned in a privatized surveillance engine for the government, as well as the face of "surveillance capitalism" and social engineering. While we knew Facebook's intrusion into our lives was opt-in only, they have exploited their own ubiquity cruelly, getting an entire generation hooked on the dopamine rush of 'likes' while selling our data and trust to both private vendors, government and law enforcement agencies.
As with all the major corporations, it's socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor. We won't be able to change this anytime soon, but at the very least, Americans have finally opened their eyes to the dangers of Silicon Valley's Orwellian power grab. George predicted Big Brother, but even he couldn't have foreseen Big Brother disguising himself as the free market.
