Life is full of choices and directions. Do I want the ham platter or biscuits and gravy? Shall I wear a blue sweater or the burgundy? Do I want the cheaper phone plan or should I go for the unlimited option? Shall I read Troy's Hive post today? Then, there is the no choice choice. Shall I go to work today? I don't have a choice, if I want to pay for my bills and stay in my home.
But our choices impact others. Should I help lend a hand to that elderly woman or be a mentor to that underprivileged child? Should I speak up at the meeting and chance it all or play it safe? The risk is higher, but so to may be the reward.
We play a key role in the long term effects of our society. Apathy vs. Action. Bitter vs. Better. Silence vs. being a voice for others. These are opposing choices that create the fork in the road and forever change the world we live in.
The classic example is the foster child, who has been displaced by the CPS. This child once had a family of love and found safety in their natural home. Yet, the for-profit governmental social worker will see an opportunity to steal the little one, by uprooting and selling them into a life of baggage, bondage and misery. Innocent families are stalked and trashed for the selfishness of the system.
Children are shuffled from home to home, to the streets as a runaway, to sex trafficking, prison...and an early grave. And this is big business at work, creating more revenue than illegal drugs and guns combined. The court system is rigged in favor of bought off judges and lawyers. And life savings are pour down a endless well of a sick system, for the safe return of innocent little ones.
And then there is the psychological baggage. Guilt, anger, depression, loneliness, failure, hopelessness, helplessness, despair, abandonment, physical and mental abuse, fear, and even suicide can fester like a cancer in these lives. Memories play like a tape on repeat. The nightmare flourishes. And this is for both parent and child, lasting a lifetime with no resolve.
These families do not have a choice, yet they suffer the consequences of our decision or indecision. We can choose to be silent and wear the cloak of apathy, as we take the wide road that forks off to the left. But that fork will pierce forever in the lives of the helpless and innocent. When we do this, we allow the baggage of emotions to manifest like a cancer, and we shape the face of injury, apathy and sickness on our children. These little ones are the faces of tomorrow and our inaction is reflected in their lives forever.

We can chose to be a voice for the voiceless. We can chose action rather than apathy. We can decide to prevent bitterness and make things better. We hold that power to shape the future and chose the forked pathway that serves a higher cause to the right. By our choice to be a friend to families and children, we create a happier and more innocent world. Tomorrow's face is not weighted down by psychological baggage or is homeless. These little ones can continue to laugh and see their dreams come true. Families can remain safely protected, preserved and defended...and freedom for all can continue.
