First contact
I try to follow a wide mix of people on Hive.
Hive is great to meet people from all over the world.
For example, I will never forget my visit to Croatia, where I got invited to by a fellow Hivean (Steemian back then).
Or Steemfest, where I got to talk to people from all over the world.
I think, I had been following @peterale for a while (because @monica-ene had reblogged him), until one day, he commented under my post:
It's really hurting me,though I sold most of my own hive investment to support my poultry business. Maybe I should have just opted for loan and leave my hive investment.ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I had been bragging about how my prediction had been right, when the Hive price went moon.
Entrepreneurship
(What a word)
I have poultry myself, I always wanted to start my own farming business, so I felt connected.
He was regretting his decision to power down all his Hive to fund his enterprise.
I think he made the right choice.
Farming is honest work, producing food is honorable and a solid business.
I wanted to help him to not regret it and I want him to succeed.
At the same time, I want people to power up Hive.
Hive helps
Hive has been good to me and I want to share the experience.
I have funded a lot of people here, but with some I got disappointed.
In fact, most of the people I supported here with advice, votes and even money transfers have left since.
I decided to vet him instead of sending money blindly.
I would like people to succeed and use Hive gains in their real life, but I also want people to power up and get a strong vote themselves. I would like all my friends to become orcas, and of course: I would like to get their votes once in a while, when they have powered up.
It's great to help others, but I also like being rewarded myself.
Discord
We established contact via Discord app and we have been talking a lot.
There are many Nigerians here on Hive and I have always felt uneducated about Africa.
@peterale helped me clear up many misconceptions I had.
Initially, I was careful to not say the wrong things, but today I feel comfortable talking to him- we talk regularily and even started to make jokes about each other.
It's a wholesome experience, alltgether.
Broiler Business
So that he can afford to keep some Hive powered up, but also get funding for his enterprise without taking a loan, I decided to jump in and ask him what he needs to advance.
He is raising broilers.
I can relate: I have some birds myself, slaughtered some myself and played with the idea of starting a business from it. My circumstances don't allow scaling up at this point, but I have done my research.
To no surprise: The methods are pretty much the same here in Germany as they are in Nigeria, and all over the world for that matter.
The Project
To get better use of his facilities, he wanted to build a seperate brooder pen, so while he is finishing one batch of birds, he can already get in new day-old birds.
This should increase his business's productivity, establishing a rotation.
The day-olds need little space, but they come with their own challenges and needs, so seperating into different pens is good practice.
I agreed that this was a good plan and decided to help funding the new brooder pen.
That money roughly covers the pen construction and a fresh batch of day-old chickens.
Progress
Since the transfer, @peterale has made great progress and today the new pen is all ready for the new flock.
It is built, wired up and disinfected. The fresh birds are ordered and should arrive this week.
While the sale of the finished birds is starting to gain momentum, he can now already begin raising the next batch.
Conclusion
This far, this was a fun project. @peterale dutifully kept me updated, made posts and has put in all the work.
Now, I would like to promote his blog, ask you to follow him and encourage his efforts to become a succesful farmer and strong Hivean.
I would also like to ask you to follow me and vote for me as a Hive witness, so I get more funds myself. I will try to continue what I am doing and promote Hive as a community of friendly, helpful people.
Most of all, I would like to encourage everybody to stop relying on curation projects, but to vote manually. It is a rewarding experience in itself and the core idea of Hive.
Mister Peter Aleraiye Adekunle, I hope I have not misrepresented you. Much respect.
Godspeed!
