My little garden
Today I mucked the chickens into my 500 m² garden. I have 12 hens that lay an average of 10 eggs a day. The barn I mucked up is about 50m². I stretched a net over the garden. I did this because a hawk killed two of my chickens last year. It is also important that the chickens always have a place to shelter and hide, such as under the cypress trees. I built the small bridge over the stream together with my father and my brother-in-law about 8 years ago. Doesn't it look idyllic?
What to feed the hens
I feed them a mix of corn, wheat, shell limestone and flaxseed every day. The flaxseed is important because it increases the omega 3 content in the eggs. Since I suffer from MS I always try to keep the amount of omega 3 in my food high because of its anti-inflammatory effects.I give the shell limestone so that the eggs don't break so easily. Of course, the hens get vegetables every day. I always fence off the garden in such a way that the grass can grow back in the free area.
My loot
Today my yield was 11 eggs. I then clean the eggs with vinegar. Since I "harvest" a lot of eggs every day, I often give them away to good friends from the gym. However, when I am on a ketogenic diet, I may end up eating up to 10 eggs a day. (=
