Here we have a case of a young girl who has severe social anxiety and hating her stepdad, as he is causing tensions and conflict between her and her mother. Here is what she says:
have two half-sisters, both younger than me. He convinced my mother to leave work and during their frequent screaming matches tells her that he won’t pay her the money she needs to buy food and pay for things. He is controlling and manipulative frequently when people aren’t around, but is charming when he needs to be. He starts conversations with me just so he has an excuse to tell my mother how “disinterested” I sound even though he knows I suffer from severe anxiety and have trouble communicating more often than not. Whenever he accuses me of being that way my mother will not speak to me at all. At this point it isn’t up for debate that she loves him more than me. My dad is in hospital after an accident, and when I found this out my stepfather badmouthed him immediately, knowing it would upset me. My mother said nothing. I feel extremely alone to the point where I’d like to live somewhere else and remove myself from this environment completely. But I don’t have that choice. What do I do?

My opinion
It's quite obvious that you're stepdad is a piece of shit, because i hate manipulative people in general. It's just the way I am and i think manipulative people should be shunned and outcasted.
But that is just my opinion...
Back to the matter at hand, there could be a number of reasons you're mother doesn't stand up for you, it could be that she has to side with you're stepfather as he is the sole earner in the house and has to pay the bills, her punishment of not talking to you could also be that reason that and she has to do this to ensure that her husband is always happy.
Ever since the accident of you're dad it seems you're stepfather has increased or been given the permission to take his manipulation to the next level, because if there was any problem you could've told you father, in short he could be the support behind you and now that he isn't able to provide the support, you're stepfather could now do as he pleases.
It's truly a shame that you're mother is on the side of you're stepfather, which is why you need to take help from someone else if you're granddad from you're father's side is there, he could help or you have any aunt's they could talk to you're mother or you could go live some place else.
If worse comes to worse and I sorely hope not, then you will have contact the authorities as it will become a serious matter later on. But that will cause a conflict between you're stepfather and mother, which will directly affect you. This whole situation seems like their arguments and their problems, they are taking it out on you.
