My god these two are too f*cking precious. Welp (cocks gun) let’s make sure it stays that way. -- Anon Guest
He'd never been a fan of damsels in distress. He much preferred the kind of girl who could go down snarling. So when they were sent to rescue some muckety-muck who had been abducted by some other nonsense group, Kudge had never expected to meet her halfway. She was filthy, dishevelled, and bore a weapon she had clearly stolen from her captors. Most of the blood staining her clothing was from other people.
Kudge had never expected to fall in love at first sight either, but there he was. Plummeting. Normally the fast talker of the troop, he had only one thing to say- "Wow."
Luse was the one to step between him and her as she wound up to cause some serious damage with, "Hey, hey, no. No... We were sent to -ah- fetch you back? Honestly thanks for making our workday shorter, but please don't kill the brains of this group or we're in serious flakk."
"You're amazing," breathed Kudge, as if witnessing some rare and wonderful phenomenon on his own. He offered his own gun. "You want a better one? We might have left a trail of stragglers behind us as we barged in."
"We were told to hurry," said Grid.
"Yeah, probably to spare these assholes," muttered San, nodding in the direction of one of the enemy forces, currently attempting to crawl discretely to safety.
"I want a combat-rated livesuit and that weapon will do nicely," said the Lady.
She may not have been much of a looker in the commonly-accepted terms, but to Kudge, she was the most wonderful being in the universe. He said, "We got a one-sizer with adaptation ports 'cause they never gave us your size."
"Of course they didn't," she growled. "I'm too fragile and delicate to trust in combat. Too valuable to train."
"Flakk that noise," said Kudge, automatically. "Everyone should learn to fight."
This earned him the faintest quirk of a smile, which felt greater than any other prize he could have earned. "Good. I'm a quick learner. Tell me everything about that fancy gun. I prefer Liz, by the way."
"Yes ma'am!" He pointed to the relevant parts as she slid the provided livesuit over her Skins. "Safety, mode control from stun through kill to vaporise - try not to use the last one, too much collateral damage. It's more of a long-range Flakk You And The Twenty Guys You're With."
This earned a laugh.
Blaze, the group's quiet one, took all this in and elbowed Luse. "Oh my sweet Powers, they're adorable together." Ze made sure hir weapon was fully loaded and primed. "Let's do our best to make sure it stays that way."
Kudge watched her back the entire way, guarding her six rather than keeping an eye on her derriere. They made a good team, and Liz was pretty darn savage for an allegedly fragile and delicate upper crust sort. She evidently had a lot of anger to work through.
As icing on the proverbial cake, Liz employed employed the Long Range Flakk You to their base as they took off. Laughing at the destruction it caused while wearing patchwork armour and carrying a borrowed gun.
Kudge was ready to give her his entire heart. He would conquer a world for her, which was relatively easy. He would invent for her, which was much harder. "Do you have a type?" he asked.
She looked away from the cascading explosions and said, "I've always liked the kind of person who never underestimates me. So far, you're doing well."
So far, so good. Kudge grinned.
