Ma scolds Wraithvine for making a very rare, for them, dangerous mistake. Fatigue can get to anyone. -- Lessons
It had been a long, long day of chaotic encounters in a Wild Magic Zone. Wraithvine, suitably frazzled and tired, had 'only' wanted to light hir pipe and smoke a little dandelion to calm hir nerves. Of such little things, big mistakes are made.
When ze came out of being an iron statue for a quarter of an hour, ze was face to furious face with Ma. "Have you learned a lesson or do I have to teach it to ye?"
Every single muscle in hir body was stiff. Hardly a surprise, all things considered. "I forgot," ze sighed. "Anybody could make that mistake."
"You also forgot that everybody needs a rest." Ma pointed to a camp they had made. Kevin's bow had not come into the equation, as there was a pot of stew simmering over the campfire and the tents had been set up. Including one over the meditation mat that was usually in Wraithvine's pack.
Wraithvine stretched, gasping and grunting in pain. "Ah. Thank you. Ow. I know. Urgh. I should have listened." Ze fell more than sat by the fire and gratefully accepted a bowl of stew. "Blessings..."
"Should have listened to us, too. Just because you've lived for eons doesn't mean you know everything," Ma lectured. She also handed over a mug of tea. "You drink up all of that, it's herbal."
"Yes, Ma," Wraithvine allowed hirself to be Mothered for an hour. Some mothers were relentless about caring for people and Ma Oxbrydl was everyone's mother for two pins. The stew, too, had medicinal substances in it. It was good for body and soul. By the time ze ingested the last drop of tea, ze was feeling better about hir place in the universe. "Thanks, Ma."
Ma shooed hir along towards hir tent. "You rest up now, and remember, eh? No more trying to do what nobody else has done."
Venin was kind of cringing in her place. "Ma says I should apologise for taking your mat. I was cold, but... in the long run?"
"In the long run, it worked out this time," said Wraithvine. "There may yet come a time when it's not the best in the long run. Speak to your needs. We have at least one person who will listen."
Ma said, "Soon to be two, I trust?"
Wraithvine got hirself settled for meditation. "Yes, Ma," ze said.
