Jay is approached by his supervisor with offer of lessons to tend to kids, and to treat injuries. Next few assignments might need the knowledge. -- DaniAndShali
"I don't really know what I can teach," said Jay. "I know what I survived, but..." He trailed off, resuming his usual performance of attempted invisibility. An old habit from his time before he escaped.
"That's what you can teach," said Counsellor Tye retained hir normal calm affect. Being the island of tranquility in the room. "You have survival tactics that could help others. We can record your techniques and send them to resource centres. All to help those we can't normally reach."
Some struggles of the CRC were slow, and resisted at every front by the populations they were trying to help. Jay had learned this when the CRC took him in to the nearest Pax Humanis sanctuary.
"Okay," said Jay. "I wanna start with food security. How to find the right stash place and what to stash. I'm not gonna advocate murder."
"That's good," said Tye. "Focusing on what can always help is good step towards a better universe. What do we need to begin?"
"Uh. Some info boards. Samples of common storage units, common bags. Cardboard and paint? One of my lessons is gonna be how to create false bottoms and false pockets. Oh yeah. Sewing kit. As minimal as you can get. Lowest budget possible. Shit. I'm'a need to go through how to get and hide money... Can you help me go through a lesson plan?"
"Certainly. I would suggest how to find hiding places before going through how to acquire what to hide."
"Right. I had to learn all of these things in one lump, in a series of failures. I need to tell these kids that it's okay to fail. That they can survive like I did." Jay played with his fingers. "Should I tell them how I did it?"
"Leave it at the fact that you're part of Pax Humanis, but they don't have to be. Some things are disturbing to the -ah- delicate."
Jay remembered being delicate. "Right." He rehearsed, "Hi, I'm Jay, and I'm a member of Pax Humanis. I survived what you're going through, but you don't have to do all of what I did to get out. Here's some things you can do without the gross parts."
"That's a rational way of beginning. Personable, factual, and reassuring. We can arrange a nondescript area for filming, and acquire your props in two weeks."
"Two weeks," repeated Jay. "And there's going to be transcripts for people who can't listen to the audio?"
"Of course. And instructional cartoons for the illiterate." Tye had a warm smile. "We do plan for every accommodation."
Jay couldn't think of everything. Tye couldn't think of everything. The assembled hordes of the CRC, however, could think of almost everything.
There was always room for improvement.
