Culinary Analyst Mats tipped the test tube of green oblate spheres into hir mouth like an alcohol addict downing a shot. Hir lab companions screamed hir name as ze chewed. Ze gave them a thumb's up, grinning while ze masticated. The Mediks made certain their equipment was primed and ready to deploy.
Mats finished chewing, and swallowed. Still breathing easily. "C'n I have a glass o' milk?"
"Have you completely slipped your gourd?" demanded Culinary Analyst Nyx, his voice cracking with the stress.
"'S awright, I'm not lactose intolerant," said Mats.
"That's not the issue, Mats," yawped Nyx. "You just swallowed a potentially lethal dose of peanut-esque root legumes."
"Well it doesn't have the trigger pathogen, and I'm done flakkin' around, so..." Ze showed a running timer. "Look. Still alive and breathing."
"This is not a safe scientific process, Mats."
"I know, I know. But as far as acid tests go, I'm pretty far up there. And I wanted to see what the fuss was about before I die." Ze saw Nyx's expression and added, "Okay, bad choice of words."
"You THINK?" Nyx finally found the time to catch his breath. "Powers. You scared the [BODILY WASTE PRODUCT] out of me, doing that."
"On the plus side, these faux-nuts are pretty tasty."
