The woman was a CEO, as brutal as they came. She was lucky, she was wanted alive. Didn't stop the Hunter from stating calmly. "Alive does not mean intact. Surrender, we do things mostly soft. Otherwise, we do things MY way." -- Anon Guest
This wasn't fair! Couldn't they tell that I was beyond the rules? Rules were made for others, not me! I'm the one who made the rules! I'm the one who rules all! Everyone below me or my peers was less than Human. And that included the specimen that managed to catch my guards off guard.
When I find out which of those incompetents let that specimen in, they're going to wish they were killed in the line of duty.
I'm not some helpless maiden waiting for a heroes rescue, either. I have my own wits and initiative. If I didn't, then I'd be some other CEO's brood mare and I never wanted that. While the specimen didn't leave me tools, I was able to create something that worked well enough. I escaped my restraints. I found a way out of the chamber that specimen left me in. All I needed was something to work as a weapon and--
The specimen had me by the neck. That wasn't fair!
"Nice try," murmured the brute. "I like it when my prey makes it interesting. Most of the time. You're lucky the CRC wants you brought in alive. Just remember. 'Alive' doesn't mean 'intact', and I know at least a hundred things you can live through that are worse than death. One warning. And then I start chopping bits off if you insist on trying that again."
The specimen threw me into a different chamber, and I didn't feel what they'd done until I saw it.
A slice of red across my left cheek. Bleeding profusely and dripping on my expensive power suit. One shallow cut that could ruin my public appeal if it was allowed to scar. I almost raged and rebelled then and there.
But I also knew that the Pax Humanis brutes were very good at what they did. None of their threats were a waste of air. If I left this chamber without the brute's permission, I would have something cut off my body.
It wasn't fair.
I did my duty for the greatest polity in the universe! I made profit hand over fist and nobody cared about the lesser ones I spent on that effort. I was the best example of girl power that ever lived! An inspiration to ladies of the right upbringing who wanted the right to a better future.
And now some filthy outsiders are dragging me off for trial and sentencing under the threat of being made ugly.
It's not fair.
