Compte Dragomyr couldn't keep it to himself any longer. He had to tell her. Yet he could not remain polite in the process. He did his best for his beloved Marzanna, but that was clearly not enough. He tried, all the same.
The lavish meal of all her favourites. The music. The dancing in the moonlight. All to keep her heart light and her smile genuine.
But there was still one little problem. Something he had to make clear. For himself. For Marzanna. For, perhaps, better tomorrows. He had to speak out about this. It could be denied no longer.
They spun to a halt at the end of the waltz. The moonlight shining in her eyes. Gleamed off her hair. She smelled of sunlight whenever she returned to him and its warmth joined the fires in his vampyric heart. Marzanna, the love of his unlife. The very reason why Dragomyr had been so very, very careful to be kind to the mortals of the village in the valley.
Not that he lacked sufficient reason before. Dying again hurt. So too did returning to physical form. It's just that Marzanna gave him so much more motivation.
"My love," he said, "do I make you happy?"
"Every night," she said, dimpling prettily as always.
"Are there any moments in which I give you cause for an ill mood?"
"Never, my love. Why do you ask?"
Dragomyr took a deep breath. Steadied his unbeating heart. "My darling... I fear greatly that these words may pain you to the point you will leave me to my lonliness."
"Speak, love," said his adored Marzanna. "I will bear your words with fortitude."
He trembled even as he said, "You need to drink more water, my dearest. It's effecting your flavour most poorly."
"And you need to brush your teeth before we kiss," she smiled. "For the exact same reason."
