Eat at least once a week to feel the results. According to a new study, frequent fish eating is associated with an increase in IQ and a higher quality sleep. The study is one of the first to connect omega-3 acids and intelligence with sleep.
"The field of these studies is new, real is now emerging," explains Dr. Jangong Liu, lead author of the study. "Here we focus on the action of omega-3 , which comes directly from our food, not from dietary supplements, what is usually happening."
For the purpose of the study, scientists tracked 541 children aged 9 to 11 in China. Those who eaten fish once a week had 5 points more in their intelligence than those who did not eat. The greater amount of fish consumed in the diet has also been associated with decreased sleep disturbances. Prof. Rhein, another scientist from the team who conducted the study, explains:
"Lack of sleep is associated with antisocial behavior, just as bad cognitive abilities. We have found that omega-3 acids reduce anti-social behavior, and therefore we were not really surprised that fish is behind this. Consumption of fish is really something very positive in the diets of people from all cultures and we need to advertise more than we are watching at the moment. "
"Especially children have to be accustomed to eating fish at an earlier age because the introduction of its specific flavor is delicate. Children are sensitive to odors, and if they are not used to any of them, they can start to avoid it. "
