Low Pressure Brings Thunderstorms to Long Island Tonight

We are watching latest radar loops and model trends this afternoon and it seems likely that some rough weather will move through Long Island tonight between roughly 7am to about 1am. Waves of downpours are moving northward but there is a small low pressure area that has developed and it is moving northward along the Delaware coast. This will likely form an east west band of heavy rain and thunderstorms that should move through here. Any one of these thunderstorms could be strong and produce heavy rains, gusty winds, and the potential for flash flooding. The high humidity in the air tells you that the atmosphere is loaded with moisture so watch out for this to start up later this evening and into the early morning hours of Thursday.
EASTERN SATELLITE LOOP
The area off the Delaware coast as of 5pm is the area to watch with the low center located just to the south of that band. To the west there are downpours and thunderstorms that are pushing east which is the reflection of the upper trough beginning to lift up and out to the northeast.
It does get better somewhat over the next 2 days but it will still be humid through Friday and there is the chance for thunderstorms late Thursday and late Friday. In fact late Friday those thunderstorms could be severe. The weekend however is looking better with some sunshine both days, lower humidity and probably no showers or thunderstorms to worry about. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s for highs over the next 4 days.
