Here I'm going to tell you all about the present situations of devastating flood in Kerala, India. The condition of flood is getting worsen day by day. Number of relief camps have been doubled over night. The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced Rs 5000 crore aid for Kerala. More than 6.80 lacks people have been relocated to the relief camps, hundreds of them still waiting in their flooded homes for rescue team to reach them. On last Saturday, at least 58,506 people were relocated from the worst- hit districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Trissur.
Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs2 lakh to the kin of each of the dead and Rs 50000 to those injured persons in the flood. The PM also announced the villagers whose kutcha houses had been destroyed in floods would be rebuilt houses under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana Scheme.
The Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the rescue operation was heading towards the final stage. He also said Kerala had incurred a loss of Rs 19,512 crore and so far. As many as 375 persons have died since May 19, the onset of monsoon.
Agriculture in at least 40,000 hectares has been destroyed and 20,000 houses have been destroyed. He urged the state would require 13,000 crore to repair 83,000 km of damaged roads in which 6,000 km is part of major road network.
Help and contribution is coming from all around the world. NDRF team and several National and International NGOs are working around the clock in rescue camps. Many States of India have announced financial assistance for Kerala.
Hundreds of troops, and dozens of boats and helicopters are helping day and night to evacuate people from the flooded area. Officials say is the worst flooding in last century. A train carrying 29 wagons of drinking water was sent to Kalyamkulam junction, the coastal parts of Kerala.
United Nations secretary-general chief Antonio Guterres has expressed sadness over the flood and huge damage and displacement caused in rain-battered Kerala. He added that their humanitarian colleagues as well as the country team in India have been following the recent floods very closely. They had not received any direct request from India when they were asked whether they had extended help to India.
