Data scientists have mined more than 2,500 Indian recipes for an explanation as to why Indian cuisine is the best in the world

According to the Washington Post, researchers at the Indian Institute for Technology in Jodhpur – presumably waiting for something more important to come along, and inspired by some late-night take away – broke down the ingredients and flavour compounds of 2,500 different meals, sourced from TarlaDalal.com. (By the way, I totally know which website I’m heading to find my next tikka masala.)
Though the results of their investigation are highly scientific, there is a fairly easy explanation for those of us who just like eating the stuff.
See, while Western recipes often feature ingredients with similar flavours, Indian recipes tend to be made from ingredients with flavours that don’t overlap (at the molecular level, that is).
As the Post puts it, “the more overlap two ingredients have in flavour, the less likely they are to appear in the same Indian dish.”
That makes Indian cuisine the most unique in the world, and apparently, also the tastiest.
