INTRODUCTION:-
Public Health Engineering is responsible for Strives to enhance the quality of life of the people of Punjab by providing safe drinking water in Brackish, Barani and areas where ground water is contaminated or otherwise unsuitable for drinking purposes. It also provides pollution free environment by executing sewerage/ drainage schemes and construction of sewage treatment plants to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the Sector.
Need based water supply scheme shall be rehabilitated with community share from all the beneficiaries to ensure active participation with regard to planning, implementation and execution. To shoulder ownership, willingness and responsibility, community will form Water and Sanitation Community Organization (WASCO) which would be a truly representative and neutral in character shall be constituted with statutory backing through an enactment, before signing MOU with regard to sustainable O&M of the scheme.
Community involvement is the power to bring positive, measurable change to both the communities in which you operate and to your business. Community involvement examples include in-kind and financial donations, employee volunteer days, enduring nonprofit partnerships, and more.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:-
The community would be decision maker for running of rehabilitated water supply scheme. Keeping in view their paying capacity of electricity bills after completion of scheme, shall be shared by the Provincial Government and respective community 50:50 respectively. The community shall ensure regular recovery of monthly charges, water connections security fee, other outstanding dues and maintenance of record in this regard. The committee shall levy water charges to evolved in consultation with the Department. SDOs/CDOs/ Sub Engineers / CBMs shall be permanent members of the committee for proper decision making; WASCOs shall be provided legal cover enabling them to carry-out O&M of the scheme successfully.
