English Version - Click to DisplayWhat madness was the qualifying in Hungary, but what madness were the statements after qualifying because after all weekend watching McLaren dominate absolutely everything, the two Papaya cars at the top in all practice sessions, Piastri and Norris swapping positions as if it were their home track, then qualifying comes and Ferrari comes out of nowhere with a pole position that even they didn't expect. Charles Leclerc was thinking that they would finish third at best, that they could aspire to be on the second row behind the McLarens, but it turns out that he pulls off one of those crazy moves that leave you with your mouth open, like Verstappen in Monaco 2023, one of those you don't know where they come from. Charles finished first with such a narrow margin that the McLarens couldn't believe it, Piastri second by only eight hundredths, Norris third by one tenth, Russell fourth with the Mercedes, which wasn't doing too badly either. The truth is that the first four drivers were separated by only five tenths of a second. that's total madness in Formula 1, we haven't seen such a close classification in a long time, and it all happened in those last few minutes of Q3 when it seemed like everything was decided, and Ferrari comes out with that perfect lap on a track that is slowly turning into a kart track, so we're not going to see many overtakes.

Throughout the session, he was very calm on the radio, asking for as few cars as possible on the track, saying he wanted clean air and no traffic. And when he took pole position, he didn't even shout or anything. He just stays there as if it were just another day at the office. That calmness in Leclerc is not normal, and in reality, it's not calmness, but surprise. While other drivers get too excited or frustrated, Charles maintains the serenity you need to be a champion on this lap, his 27th pole position of his career and the first of the season for Ferrari. something they desperately needed after such a difficult year where they always seemed to be behind McLaren, Red Bull, and even Mercedes at times. Seeing Ferrari back on top, even if it's just in qualifying, feels good for the sport because we need more teams fighting at the front. We need more variety in the results; it can't always be the same two or three teams dominating everything.

The guy was eliminated in Q2, finishing in 12th place, and then in the interviews he said something that left me sad and shocked. He said that the problem was him, that he was useless, when his teammate got pole position. That's something I didn't expect to hear from Lewis Hamilton, a driver with seven world championships, saying that he's the problem when Leclerc proves that the car does have speed. Throughout the session, he looked frustrated, saying the same thing over and over again on the radio, probably referring to the problems they've had all season. But it turns out that the car does work, the car can get pole position, so the question is what is going on with Lewis, why can't he get the most out of the Ferrari like Leclerc does? It's a very strange situation we're seeing at Ferrari, where one driver gets pole position and the other doesn't even make it past Q2. That difference is too big to be just coincidence or bad luck. This is a mental block that I think Hamilton has been carrying since 2021 when he lost the championship to Verstappen, and it's a shame because he's still a fast driver but he doesn't have that instinct that allows him to make the difference. With what's going on, it's more than clear that the problem at Mercedes wasn't the car if Russell beat him all season. We'll have to wait until 2026 to see if things change for Hamilton.

The Italian rookie was unable to find the extra speed he needed to advance to Q3. while Russell managed to get into the top four. Once again, we saw the inconsistency that has plagued Mercedes all season, with a car that sometimes works very well and other times seems lost, not knowing which direction to take with the setup. Russell at least maintained the level he has had all year, consistently being the best Mercedes driver. But they need both cars up front if they want to fight for something important. They can't continue with this situation where only one driver scores important points while the other struggles in the middle of the grid. That's no good for the constructors' championship.
English Version - Click to DisplayThe McLarens were obviously unhappy with the result, because after dominating the entire weekend, after being the fastest in all sessions, reaching qualifying and not getting pole position must hurt quite a bit. Piastri finished second but looked annoyed, Norris third and also looking glum, because they knew they had the fastest car, they knew they should have been on the front row, but Ferrari ruined their party with Leclerc's almost perfect lap. Now they have to start the race behind a Ferrari that also looks fast in race pace. But I think it will be easy for McLaren to regain those positions. It's true that it's a circuit where overtaking is very difficult, so they'll have to do something special in terms of strategy or hope that Ferrari makes a mistake. Beyond McLaren having the better car, Ferrari being Ferrari, they're going to screw up Leclerc's race in some way, but you can never completely rule out Ferrari. For now, Charles has a golden opportunity to get his first win of the season.
