English Version - Click to DisplayThe 2025 Formula 1 season is giving us a reality that no one expected to see, with Ferrari collapsing not only on the track but also psychologically, and this became more evident than ever during the Hungarian Grand Prix, where we saw things that frankly left me speechless. Lewis Hamilton telling us that he is useless and that the team should change drivers, while Charles Leclerc took pole position but then collapsed during the race as if he were a beginner. But beyond this are the radio messages during the race where Leclerc kept complaining, telling the team that none of this would have happened if they had let him drive the “problem” and that with luck they would have finished third in the race. The situation at Ferrari is so worrying that even George Russell came out to say that he knew exactly what was happening with the Ferrari car. This is soap opera level, but Formula 1 version, and the truth is that it hurts to see a team with so much history making this kind of mess. Personally, it hurts me because Hamilton is one of my favorite drivers, not only because of how he drives but also because of who he is on camera. And the saddest thing is that, in typical Ferrari fashion, all statements or comments during or after the race disappear due to pressure from management, orders from high up within Ferrari that, in a nutshell, say, “retract your statements or else.”
English Version - Click to DisplayThe technical problem Ferrari has is incredibly complicated to solve. Basically, they have a car that only works when they drive it too low to the ground, but when they do that, they risk being disqualified for excessive wear on the floor, as already happened in China. So they are in an impossible situation where, to be fast, they have to break the rules, and to comply with the rules, they have to be slow. During the Hungarian race, this was clearly seen when Leclerc dominated in the first stint, but after the pit stops, he became very slow. Apparently, Ferrari decided to increase the tire pressure to lift the car and avoid disqualification, but that completely ruined the car's maneuverability. Leclerc was furious on the radio, telling them that they should have listened to him to handle the situation differently. In theory, this whole issue should have been resolved by the new suspension they had implemented, which I assume would better control the car's squat during aerodynamic load and help level the car's height. This aerodynamic load is caused a lot on high-speed straights, which is where in Hungary the Ferrari looked like a dragon breathing fire, but without enough aerodynamic load, the car becomes unstable or, so to speak, slow in high- or low-speed corners depending on the circuit. It's not really a matter of just taking something away and putting something else there. For this and more, it's called car balance.
English Version - Click to DisplayWhat impresses me most about all this is how Hamilton has changed his attitude compared to his difficult years at Mercedes. Before, he always remained calm and supported the team, but now he seems completely defeated psychologically, and I think this is largely due to Ferrari's policy, where the driver doesn't have much say or vote unless he's in the middle of a race and the team has no other choice. This is one of the reasons why they got rid of Carlos Sainz. Let's not forget “Guys Stop Inventing” when, in the 2023 season, he was asked to let Leclerc pass just so he could get closer to Max in the points, a very FERRARI decision. Hamilton, after being eliminated in Q2 while his teammate took pole position, said that it was useless and that Ferrari needed to change drivers. Those are not normal words from a seven-time world champion, let alone when said publicly. In the race, he finished 12th, unable to pass either Hulkenberg or Antonelli, finishing out of the points for the first time in Hungary since 2010. It's painful to see one of the best drivers in history going through this, especially on a circuit where he was traditionally dominant with eight pole positions and nine victories in the past.
English Version - Click to DisplayGeorge Russell did not remain silent and practically accused Ferrari of cheating, saying that GPS showed they were using different engine modes at the end of the straights to protect the plate from excessive wear. He also mentioned that Leclerc was obviously not going to admit they were racing illegally when asked about the alleged chassis problem. The way Russell explained the situation was brutal but makes technical sense. Ferrari was desperate to keep the car low to maintain speed, but when they realized they were going to have legal problems, they decided to sacrifice the entire race. Leclerc was so upset that his radio message was probably the longest in Formula 1 history, complaining that they had lost all competitiveness and that the car was unmanageable. The frustration in his voice was noticeable and understandable because he went from comfortably leading to fighting to stay in the points. Leclerc would probably have tried to control the situation by coasting and lifting, in the second stint, just maintaining the necessary distance to win the race. Let's say it's still a risky bet, but more controlled. Beyond all this, what is worrying is that, like Leclerc, many online fans said it was better to take a risk and be disqualified if they were going to lose anyway. Others would say that this is practically what Verstappen does with his aggressive driving.
English Version - Click to DisplayThe reality is that Ferrari is in a deep crisis that goes beyond technical problems. They have a disorganized team that cannot solve its fundamental problems and drivers who are losing confidence in both the car and the strategic decisions. Fred Vasseur tries to defend the situation, but the facts speak for themselves. They haven't won a race all season apart from Hamilton's Sprint in China, and every weekend they seem to get worse instead of better. Even I have come to think that Binotto is a better director than Vasseur, and I'm not a big fan of Binotto. The pressure on Hamilton is immense because everyone expects a driver of his caliber to be able to adapt to any car, but he is clearly struggling with the characteristics of the SF25. Meanwhile, Leclerc, although he can occasionally get pole position, is unable to convert those opportunities into victories due to the limitations of the car and poor decisions by the team. On top of all this, we don't know how true it is that they are giving the best setups only to Leclerc and brought Hamilton in just for marketing purposes. After all, Leclerc is Ferrari's darling. It's sad to see how the team with the most history in Formula 1 is wasting the talent of two incredible drivers because they can't build a competitive and consistent car.
