"Time travel?" I repeated, perfectly aware that I sounded incredulous. "Well, I watched Dark on Netflix. But that's about it."
Katie nodded.
"Ok," she said. "That's a good start. Well, the thing that Rachel was working on was a bit like Time Travel. Only slightly different."
I nodded.
"Ok," I said. "That makes no sense at all."
Mrs Cherry laughed, again.
"He's right," she said. "You are rubbish at explaining it. Let me try." She got up and went over to the kitchen cupboard above the oven. She opened it up and took out three jars of herbs and came back and plonked them on the table. "Right," she said. "What do you have here oregano, rosemary and... oh that's appropriate: thyme." She proceeded to take the lid off and pour all the contents of the jars onto the table. "Now think of the space and time like this pile of herbs."
I looked at it.
"Okaaaaaay," I said.
Mrs Cherry laughed. "You weren't joking when you said you'd accept any old bullshit we told you, were you?"
