DAILY PROMPT: HOT SPOT

I love doing 5 minute free right exercises. You just set your timer and go. Most of my stories whether fiction or non fiction are based in some kind of truth. I love being able to go through past memories and find photos and make gifs out of old videos and plug them into my post But the writing; 5 minutes. With that being said I'm hoping to get all the information I need in because I'm gonna talk to you about a hotspot and a woman by the name, Marta Becket.
In 1967, Marta Becket and her husband got a flat tire while driving through Death Valley Junction (California/Nevada). Luckily there was an old theater and motel that all of the local miners stayed at. They had to bunk a few nights until getting back home to New York. Now you have to remember back in these days this area of the country was almost lawless. What little they had wasn't like what we have today. You see. She is a very accomplished person. She started dancing as a ballerina at the age of 14 and performed a number of shows. Corpse de Ballet at Radio City Music Hall as an example.

She ended up falling in love with this hot spot and made a very radical decision. She wanted to leave New York, her career, everything to buy this place. You see she had a dream and nothing was going to stop her. Everyone thought she had lost it or that she went mad. I promise you, she did not and in fact opted for living life the way she wanted to and not what the norm was. Her husband didnt much like the idea but mining sluts kept him busy. When I went on the motel tour a few years ago the woman who personally knew Marta told me that she didn't care about his affairs. She sent him packing

Slowly Marta fixed up the place. The old theaterthat miners would watch peep shows in was completely renovated by her. This woman was more than a dancer. She was an artist. She got donations from local places for wood and seating. The entire inside was painted by hand. The murals look like banisters of people just waiting to watch the show!
Everything was hand painted by her and she didnt use anything but a ladder. You see most painters use a scaffold to lay down while painting but not this woman. She had a vision and had to see it just right.
It took many years but she got it all painted and started performing. The hotel had a revival of sorts. Her husband ended up leaving but she never left. She feel in love with the desert, dancing on her own stage. The local schools that were still open as the Rembrandts of old mining towns, came on field trips and she would perform for the kids.
This woman danced on her toes until she was 85 and performed until she was well into her late 80s. When she couldn't dance anymore she started having plays in where shed read stories and such for the children.
Even when the theater was empty it felt alive. She made sure to paint herself an audience! Marta Becket since my visit has past but I'm so happy I got to hear about this wonderful lady who feel in love with the desert and never let life she's what she wanted

She even painted her furry friend! Yes her own cat was hid into the mural of people waiting for the show!
TIME'S UP!
