Graceful.
"Mother Mary full of grace, too bad you aren't too fair of face!"
Kids are cruel, thought Mary. Don't take it to heart. Let them be their cruel little selves, finding glee in being mean, while they can. Soon enough they'll know that the world is crueler than they ever could be.
So Mary just smiled a huge, hideous smile at the children, and then they stopped with the taunting, because they weren't actually expecting to see fangs. Mary closer her mouth before any parents got a glimpse. Oh how she loved to do that. Haunt those little shits for the rest of their days. Maybe it would help them, make them think twice before teasing some other ugly soul.
Mary didn't really mind being ugly. She was fun. Fugly. She chuckled a bit to herself. She had had a good life. She didn't need to do much more, these days, to please herself, then freak out some kids.
She passed a loquat tree and saw a big, beautiful ripe one on a branch much, much too high. She stole a quick glance around. No one in sight. A quick jump, and the loquat was in her hand and a second later her mouth. She was about to let loose a sigh of delight at the sweet juices running down her throat, when she heard someone make a sound as if they were trying very hard not to be heard. A stopping of the breath.
