Hi everyone! Today’s prompt of ‘curses’ could go in a lot of fun ways, so I just started writing and played with where it went:
The air stagnated between the weeping trees and lurking fog. Perpetual gray coated the murky swamp, the dense canopy above enclosing the space like a damp cavern. Black water filled the gaps between the sparse, limping plant life, from which the stench of rotting leaves rose with futility. Ick slathered the haphazard stones meandering to what could be a small house, if not for its dilapidated appearance. The structure looked half-melted, as if oozing downwards into the slime below. Its pale wooden siding was fractured and cracked. If one dared to look closer, they would make out the shape of a door nearly detached from its rusty hinges, as well as a small, uneven window, the panes of which were long gone. Only a few broken shards remained, as though piercing fangs from a splintery sill. All that could be seen through this cramped opening, if one dared further, would be single candle burning in the creaky depths. It’s cold blue light illuminated only a scratched desk with a single book. A book of darkness. A book of curses, plagues, and death. A book you should have left alone.
