Passion fruit belongs to the genus Passiflora crop, originating from tropical and sub tropical regions in America. The fruit is round and has a yellow webbed bean.
In Indonesia there are two types of passion fruit, namely passion fruit (passiflora edulis) growing in the highlands, and passion fruit yellow (passiflora flavicarva) that grow in the lowlands. Some areas that became the center of passion fruit production include North Sumatra, and South Sulawesi.
Meanwhile, there is also a passion fruit variant that grows in the area of West Sumatra is referred to as sweet passion fruit (passiflora edulis forma flavicarva)
