I am a geek, and I like numbers. Lately the numbers of accessible full nodes to STEEM blockchain has gone down, a lot.
Vessel now only finds 2 nodes, privex and the one that @pharesim runs. So I asked a STEEMIT employee plus some network geeks and some pioneers to explain to me what is required to run 24/7 full steem-nodes of different quality.
So what is required to run a full node in Hardfork 20.5 and above:
Well, I shall not be absolute here, so feel free to add your own requirements and the monthly costs in the comments below.
The aprox minimum requirement for a full node is currently on this version:
256 Gigs of RAM, you can do less when the chain is downloaded.
2 Terrabyte of fast SSDs for virtual memory
a small CPU
The MEDIUM requirement for a full node is currently on this version:
512 Gigs of RAM, can be reduced but a lot of people bragged they had this type of node and overrated the monthly costs by a large amount.
1 Terrabyte of fast SSDs for virtual memory to use for virtual memory and storage
a small CPU because STEEM is not very CPU heavy, and only single threaded.
The MAXIMUM* possible requirement for a kickass full node is:
1 Terrabyte of RAM - There are people working on RAM Daisy Chain, which should make it possible to run 100 Terrabytes of RAM, so keep your eyes out if you want to go maximum!
6 Terrabyte of SSDs for virtual memory and storage.
a small CPU
*there is no maximum!
Maybe there is a business in running some vip.fullnode.net services. I would gladly pay a fraction of the cost of running the steem-node I use for my services in order to stay online when the network is shaky and public nodes are attacked.
I think there is, and I hope to see more business driven services on the blockchain. We need it!
In the world of FULL NODES, we need Men of Integrity to step up their game. There is a lot of marketing money in using brand URLs, get sponsors to be seen by the most active users on STEEM while getting paid for private services as well.
Sincerely,
@fyrstikken / @fyrst-witness / @booster / @steemspeak / @steemads / @steemfiesta
A Human in love with STEEM who want to see more full nodes, public and private.
