How cleaning and fun in the same phrase sound to you? Weird? I thought so.
The only moments when I enjoyed clean up until this evening were when I felt quite bad and I needed some kind of distraction from my thoughts.
Tonight was different and we cleaned the 2 rooms flat in less than 2 hours while having a lot of fun. Below the rules we followed:
1. Turn on the music, loud enough so you would hear it over the vacuum cleaner.
Not any type of music but joyful and full of energy music. 90's Disco is perfect for this kind of activity.
2. Find someone to help you (partner, child, cat)
Seeing other person under the same burden as you will make things look much easier and time will fly.
3. Split the tasks
It's fun to do this with someone else but it's not fun to start arguing on who is doing a better job. We have different perspectives and we are aware of this. We have different styles and there is a fight is no option, we have better things to do with the energy left after the clean-up.
So we took different rooms and the party started.
4. Dance
While you clean the dust, use the vacuum cleaner or mop. Dance alone or share the moment with the one you are sharing also the job. Don't miss any song that makes you want to dance. It won't slower you down but will keep you engaged in the work.
5. Don't keep count
Give up comparing what you have done with what the other has. You both (or more) done your best and this is something to thank for.
Yes, maybe the dust is still there in one room, maybe you would have arranged those books differently but it should not be about comparing but about celebrate the final result, together.
6. Give yourself a reward
Sharing a glass of cold beer, time to write an article on steemit or whatever makes you happy and puts a mark in your mind that cleaning is not that bad.
What tips and tricks are you using when cleaning your place to make this more enjoyable?
