About
SteemBots is an game similar to Tecmo's Monster Rancher series where you create a bot from a mysterious crystalline object known as a Seed. These robots are sentient, yet they also are willing to follow your commands. You must train them, upgrade them, and send them on various errands to make sure your bots are brought up, and can serve whatever purpose they were designed for.
History
STEEMBots was called ScanBots when it was first conceived, at the time the users were sent out into the world to scan bar-codes and the like to generate items for their bots. Unfortunately, the project was put on the back burner until now.
Rational
Steem is a fast, stable block chain with very few barriers of entry. Though, it isn't really the block-chain that matters in this game, but the content created there on. STEEM is a "social" chain where users create content on a plethora of different interfaces that all feed into a central database that is distributed between STEEM nodes. This means that no matter where you post, as long as its a part of the chain, SteemBots will analyze it and give you in game rewards. To keep things fair the gear modules will only be awarded for posts that are 6 days old, and will only be awarded for one post per week (random drops may happen for especially good content).
Features
- Every player begins with one bot "seed"
- 5 bots per user can be in play at any given time.
- Users get weekly "gear modules" based on their participation in the block chain. (Posts, Comments, etc.)
- Parts are finite and there will be a market place to buy or trade parts.
- Multiplayer activities: Puzzles, Scavenger hunts, Battles, and more.
- Single player training activities. Send your bot to far away lands for a chance to find new seeds or equipment. (these * may be playable as well)
- Over 100 possible body and part combinations at launch.
- Mix and match arms, legs, and support / weapons systems for each bot
- Have access to 3D printable "action figures" that can be mixed and matched as well. (reverse skylanders)
- Asynchronous design play the game with or without an internet connection. *
- Any items found in the game will show as "needs appraisal" and are not available for use until the internet connection is restored.
Revenue
The game will be free to play, however there will be a market place where people can buy and sell parts. There is also the possibility of special paint jobs that could also be used for revenue. We are also using fundation.io and their new weekly recursive payment feature to fund the development.
Team
@bflanagin: Developer, lead graphics designer, anything else.
@liamflanagin: Junior graphics designer (9 years old)
@seamusflanagin: Junior graphics designer (8 years old)
Ben Flanagin has been coding and developing software and interactive content for over 15 years. Though most were for specific purposes or clients his heads down work ethic makes him the perfect person for these types of projects. He is now teaching his two boys Liam and Seamus which includes a game development class.
Along with STEEMBots Ben is working on educational software that is also connected to the STEEM ecosystem. It is his belief that getting the youth involved in the chain is the key to the future of the digital currency and block chain. Mixing both gaming AND education is a winning combination that doesn't only grow a new sector of the STEEM economy it strengthens the existing blog based service that it was founded on.
Thanks for checking out the project and be sure to follow it and @v-entertainment.
