I felt it was about time for an update on my game making but I also realized that I haven't been working on my game a lot in the past couple of days, for several reasons ( one of them having eaten wild mushrooms and getting somewhat of a scare after telling people about it )
Let's just say that, every time I felt like working on it, I either got distracted, started playing other peoples' games or felt like I didn't really know what I was doing and stopped fumbling around.
Long story short:
I realized that I should think things out a little more, before I actually start making the game. Otherwise, it will just be added screen scaring time ( something I'm getting plenty of already ) without much result.
Nevertheless, yesterday afternoon, on a walk, I got some ideas. I later jotted them down and decided to share them here:
You're hypersensitvosaurus
You're home alone
Your parents are out and they consider you old enough to stay home alone
Unfortunately, you are ( an ) afraid in the dark(osaur)
It doesn't help that there's no electricity in your (bed)cave
and that you would feel even more scared outside your (bed)cave
So, the best thing you can do, is to stay in your bed and wait until your parents return. Right?
The Dilemma:
Closing your eyes freaks you out. It seems to be even darker than with your eyes open. And - who knows - you might fall asleep and have a nightmare.
Having your eyes open, in your dark room, though, makes you see things that aren't there. Or are they?
What do you do? Do you step out of your bed to check on these shadows in the dark?
I feel the above is gonna be the premise of this game. I'm sure all of you know this feeling of lying in bed and seeing dark silhouettes in the room. Shadows and shapes that might just be your clothes on the chair or... You don't even want to think of what it can be, if it isn't your clothes!
And then I checked on the deadline of the contest: Art Explosion - Theme Dark that I'm planning to enter this game in and found out that it's nearer than I thought. I have until this Saturday - about four full days left - and Thursday I'm out most of the afternoon ( it's my twin sister and my birthday ) and Saturday too.
Let's say that I have tomorrow and Friday left to work on this game. The pressure is probably gonna help me to actually start going, which is good. I had kind of hoped to learn some more about this game making tool that I'm using but I guess that needs to wait.
I actually reached out to a guy whose game - Please do not climb on the Dinosaurs - I liked a lot, to ask some technical questions ( to find out how he did things that I thought were impossible ) but so far he hasn't replied yet. I'm pretty sure though that he used some so called 'hacks' that are pretty much out of my league, at this point in time.
In other words, I need to understand a little more about programming, scripting, before I can make a game that is more interactive, contains more movement and looks more professional. Until that time, I will have to make do with retro looking text adventures.
Alright, that's it for today. I am gonna watch a movie. Something I'm doing a lot more often, lately. It also helps to get me into a different frame of mind, so I'm not ( just ) thinking about game making.
TO BE CONTINUED...
P.S. If you look carefully at the picture above this write up, you notice one of the ways how I improve my Portuguese: I put the settings of Bitsy, the tool I use to make games, on Portuguese. I have done the same with my phone's settings. So, if you wanna improve your language skills, you might want to do the same ;>)
