Hello there fellow Steemians! I just want to share with you some of my insights regarding this cool story in Choices, an app-based collection of interactive books. It is entitled “It Lives in the Woods”. And yes, you are right, this is under the horror/suspense genre.
Now, before I proceed a little further, I just want to share about Choices.
Choices – an app for adventurous novel readers
It was a good friend of mine who recommended Choices. At first, I was really skeptic about the app, and I was thinking that the stories can be “crappy”. However, I still downloaded it because he insisted that the stories there are so cool. The app was not that heavy, probably consuming just 85 MB of my data.
When I opened it, there was about 20+ stories found in its “shelf” all of which are interactive with a game-like feature. “Choices”. So, uhm, yes, there are points along the novel wherein you need to choose the response of certain characters. Different choices leads to different outcome. I couldn’t believe it, but I was instantly hooked by this core feature. It made me feel in-charge as if I’m really part of what I was reading.
Best of all, most of the books are free, although you can only read 1 chapter every 2 hours using their “key-based” system. Initially, we are given 2 keys, and unlocking succeeding chapter costs 1 key (the first chapter of all the books does not consume any keys, only the next ones). Every two hours, we earn 1 key with maximum storage of 2 keys. Of course, if you get hooked, you have the option to purchase extra keys. That’s the time when things stop being free. The choice is ours.
It Lives in the Woods - a story about Westchester and a spooky creature
The first book I was reading was an adventure-themed one, which was really interesting, but I shifted to this horror novel when my friend urged me to give it a try. He said that the storyline seemed really impressive. I listened, and so I started with this book instead.
The moment I began, I immediately got hooked. I wanted to buy keys, just to proceed and know how the story would go. Each chapter made me crave for the next. I wanted to solve the mystery. In the process, I didn’t spend anything for keys, but I did for a few diamonds. Wait, don’t judge. I couldn’t help it. I wanted the best for my characters. It felt like I was responsible for their well-being. I needed to make sure that their Nerve Scores are up.
It took me just 3 days before I completed all the 16 Chapters, and I’m writing this because I’m urging you to read it as well, if you are into these things. Trust me, you’ll enjoy the game-like features and the story!
