The Nintendo 64 is one of my favorite game consoles despite its weird controller. Portal is one of my favorite meme-generating games. And now there is a project combining the two. That's right, a team is making Portal run on an N64!
Portal was released in the Orange Box back in 2007. The big consoles were the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. I own it for PC. Minimum system requirements are not on my DVD-style case, but according to this source, they are:
- CPU: 1.7 GHz Processor
- RAM: 512 MB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce3+ or ATI Radeon 8500+
- OS: Windows 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP
Meanwhile, the N64 was released in 1997. Its specs:
- CPU: 93.75 MHz
- RAM: 4 MB, expandable to 8 MB
- GPU: SGI 62.5 MHz 64-bit RCP with 2 sub-processors.
- OS: what's an OS?
How does that work out?
I admit I am entirely out of my depth here, but this looks like an awesome project even if only for an emulator like a Raspberry Pi setup. If you code, does this look legit? If you played an N64 back in the day when it was hot stuff, or consider it "retro" now, would you want to experience Portal in its limited polygonal environment?
