This is @chrnerd with a review of a game I played recently on ranked queue Diamond IV EUNE elo. This time around I'm going to review the Varus midlane pick. Varus is an extremely solid ADC-Marksman champion which more often than not is seen going the attack speed build, with Blade of the Ruined King and Guinsoo's Rageblade as the core items. Seldom Varus is picked in midlane but when this happens he's played in a poke fashion.

Going into champion select, we already have 2 AP champions locked in which gives me the freedom to opt for an AD champion in midlane, and in so picking Varus. Since I'm up against a Lissandra who is a definitely strong champion in early game I'm opting for the Cleanse in the Summoner's Spells selection in order to avoid getting heavily CC'd and killed over and over. Starting the game I'm leaning towards Corrupting Potion which enables me to trade more blows and have some extra sustain. Since their team consists of 3 AP solo laners, I'm rushing Mercury's Treads which provide me with extra Magic Resist as well as Tenacity which decreases the duration of Crowd Control abilities cast on your champion. In the Varus midlane occassion, you would definitely want to cap Lethality and Armor Penetration to maximize your damage output. Runes selection for this particular game can be viewed below:

I prefer Aery over Arcane Comet since the second one can be missed if the enemy champions have a lot of mobility or very high Movement Speed. Nullifying Orb for some extra shielding against AP type damaging abilities. Scorch adding some extra damage to your early laning phase poke abilities. Secondary Tree consists of Cosmic Insight for the extra 5% CDR and Magical Footwear for free purchase of boots, since you're basically looking to afk farm and poke in the earlier stages of the game.

Concluding, what can be said is that ally Darius went beast mode to carry us to the victory, although the game was pretty close for the most time! Varus midlane can be viewed as an AD control caster that can substitute champions such as Xerath, Orianna, Lux.
