I question I find many people asking themselves (even me asking myself) is if gaming is too saturated to make content for.
Gaming content on the internet got really big around 2012 with the rise of let's plays on YouTube. There was content on the internet before, but the biggest stuff was things like standard reviews from game magazines. After everyone saw what the gaming YouTubers could do, loads of people, ranging from young kids to adults, started gaming channels on YouTube. Today, gaming content is everywhere. You can look on any website where content creation is possible, and there will be gaming content there.
There is a lot of gaming content; However, there are still creators who are rising up, who become popular and are able to live off of gaming. Why is this?
Asking if gaming is too saturated is the wrong question. Asking something like "how can I disrupt the professional gaming review genre" is a much more productive question. See, gaming as a whole is too saturated, but the genre "gaming" includes all the sub-genres of it. What many people fail to realize is that there are markets ready for disruption, and they need to find them.
Right after shortcut kits came out for Battlefield 1, lots of creators were making videos about how beneficial they were. However, there was a lack of content for those who wanted to know if the shortcut kits were worth it. I did not know this, but I ended up making a video for exactly those people. One year later, the video has about 26,000 views and is still going. I disrupted the market.
There are simple things that you can do to disrupt the gaming market. You can look at something from a different angle. How can you do let's plays different than everyone else? You can also try to make your own content, but that is hard without experience. Right now, there isn't a lot of casual gaming content, so I am making stuff for that. However, after I make that content, I will try to disrupt it myself and beat myself at my own game.
Hopefully, those of you who read this article will stop asking if gaming is too saturated and look for opportunities within the sub-genres and jump!
