Hey everyone!
I’ve recently started learning VR development, and I wanted to share a first look at a small prototype I’ve been working on. This project doesn’t have an official name yet — it's more of a personal milestone to kick off my journey into VR and improve my overall game development skills.
What’s this prototype about?
The main goal of this prototype was to start learning the basics of VR interaction and understand how they blend with what I already know from developing in Unity.
More specifically, I’m building an interactive experience where users can assemble an object (like a model or setup) in virtual reality while learning about it. It’s meant to be both educational and immersive, and this is just the very beginning.
Tools & Platform
- Engine: Unity
- Headset: Meta Quest 2
- Tech stack: OpenXR + Unity XR Toolkit
Challenges & Highlights
The hardest part was definitely getting the whole VR setup to work properly, including headset detection and implementing interaction with both objects and UI elements in VR.
What I really enjoyed was making everything flow smoothly — connecting the screen with the model and maintaining a seamless interaction path. Seeing it all come together inside the headset was really rewarding.
What’s next?
This prototype is just the beginning. I plan to keep developing it and turn it into a more polished immersive experience. I’m constantly testing new ideas and figuring out how to bring them to life in VR.
Watch the video
I made a quick video showing early gameplay from the prototype. You can check it out here:
Let me know what you think!
If something about the prototype caught your attention or you have ideas that could make it better, I’d love to hear them. I'm not making this public for testing yet, just sharing my progress and getting early feedback from the community.
Thanks for reading and see you on next posts!
