When it comes to preparing for the GAMSAT exam, a huge part of your result comes down to how well you manage your time for the exam. We have a few GAMSAT time management tips for you.
Tip #1 – Have a plan and stick to it during the exam
We’ve all been there. There’s always that one question that has a lot of information about a difficult topic. If you know that taking on this question would be very time consuming, you should consider skipping it. You can go back to it later, or just choose a random answer if there’s not enough time. Don’t spend too much time on a single question.
Tip #2 – Keep your energy level up but know your limits
The GAMSAT exam is a very long exam that would overall take 5 ½ hours to finish. Therefore, it is very important to keep your energy level up. Take a moderate amount of caffeine to avoid a crash, and try to eat high protein low sugar snacks as much as you can.
Tip #3 – Practice for the actual exam
You should begin by getting familiar with the structure and content of the exam by doing practice questions is essential, but it could be a bit too much to do a whole exam from the get-go. When you’re just getting started, do partial practice exams. This way you will be able to familiarise yourself with the questions.
Once you have become more familiar with the questions, you should practice sitting a full exam. This is an exercise in endurance. You should train yourself to stay focused and awake throughout the exam.
Tip #4 – Understand GAMSAT timing
The GAMSAT exam has three Sections, and each Section has a timeslot allocated to it. By understanding how long each Section is, you would be able to create a plan and decide how much time you will be spending on each question.
Basically, the first Section has ten mins reading and one hundred mins writing. Therefore, you should spend less than 2 minutes per question.
The second Section has five mins reading and sixty mins writing. That means you can spend about thirty minutes for each question.
The third Section has ten mins reading and 170 mins writing. It’s okay to spend about one and a half minutes per question.
