Broccoli leaves just beginning to burst thru alongside other smaller weeds
Would you just look at that! A couple broccoli seeds had sprouted that had been planted outside! The sproutlings are in the box hockey frame with the topsoil layer of dirt I had dug and moved into it, so that dirt appears to be able to harbor life. I hope to see these little sproutlings grow over the next few weeks into nice big green broccoli plants!
I pray they will survive until my return from Virginia!
Covered the pile entirely with dirt. Some of the dirt was very high in clay content, while some had apparently biomatter and old potting soil mixed in.. which makes sense as I can remember, before I dug the cistern that someone had been dumping their old potting soil where I put all the dirt from the hole. So it piled on top and got mixed in and thus when I just dug it back out I noticed the dirt was not homogeneous and could even distinguish some perlite particles...
Which is something I need to grab next time at the greenhouse, a bit bag of perlite to help with my soil amendment.
Another broccoli seed sprung to life
I wonder how many of them will sprout. I planted quite a few. I didn't see any life in the rows, I feel I won't see any life until I amend the soil a bit to promote better growing. It was a bit dryer and the dirt was so rock hard.. I can't imagine a small little plant trying to grow in it.. geez.
When the day comes to amend the soil, it will be a back breaking day for sure.
