Today's Project Diary Video I will be showing you how to build a free Raised Bed from recycled Pallet Wood for your Garden or Allotment.
When starting your first Allotment or garden it can seem very overwhelming especially if it's your first time growing. The best way to tackle things is to break each step down into smaller pieces and get a rough idea of what your goals are before starting any project.
When making raised garden beds it may be a good idea to take the Square Foot Garden approach which is basically your entire growing area broken down into 12 inch or 1 foot squares. This way it's easy to work out how many crops you can plant in each square. Most Square Foot garden beds are 3 or 4 squares deep. This is so you are able to reach into the centre of the bed from any side without compressing or leaning on the soil. Tight compressed soil will prevent any of the plants smaller root systems developing and may hinder the health of your crops.
