If you don't know what Guild Wars 2 is, I suppose I should start by explaining that is is an MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) game that is free to download and free to play. You don't have to upgrade to the expansions right away because the free world is massive. However, like many games that have been around for years and years, there are not many people in those areas anymore. To be honest I don't know where they are.
There are at the moment 2 expansion packs that cost something like 20 to 40 dollars each, if you want them. You are never obligated to purchase these things. There are optional purchases in game that take place at the "Gem Store" and most of these items offer no real playing advantage and they are just convenience or aesthetic items.
One of the main parts of this game (and an aspect of it that I think is actually pretty cool) is how you harvest items on the various maps that you travel through. These are generally referred to as "nodes" because that is what they are. Their locations change but only to certain areas, basically people are at least somewhat aware of where the nodes will be that day.

I don't know if all of those fit on one "line" but i hope so. They are ore, lumber, and plant nodes and they are scattered all over the friggin place. My acquire what these nodes have to offer by using your pickaxe, axe, or sickle but the problem is that unless you buy ones with real-world money, they have a limited number of times you can use them. This I suppose shouldn't be very problematic if you just remember to always buy more but trust me when I say you will forget

These guys will never run out of charges, you can use them forever and ever. They will never break, they will never run out of uses and some of them even have a unique animation that I would avoid if i were you because you will get sick of it and at the end of the day nobody gives a crap if your harvesting sickle plays a tune when you use it.
I have only ever purchased a few items in the game and the only way to get these ones is to either save up a bunch of gold and exchange if for gems, or to break out the mastercard and pay $8 for it or something. I know people that grind for hours to make something like 6 gold in-game, and if you just wash dishes at Taco Bell for an hour you can get 3 times that much gold so for me it was an easy decision since I vowed many years ago to never let an MMO become a grind ever again.
I wouldn't say that very many things in the Gem store are actually worth buying but since gathering materials is a big part of the game if you ever want to have the best gear in the game, these unbreakable tools are definitely worth it in my book.
