As I write this on 6/9/2017, the price of gold is about $1266.3 per ounce and silver is $17.17 per ounce. This would mean that the current silver to gold ratio is about 73.75 ounces of silver per one ounce of gold. It's amazing that it is so high! During early American History the silver to gold ratio was set by law to 15 to 1 and later 16 to 1. If we used that criteria today the price of silver should be $84.42 and $79.14 respectively. Today the amount of above ground silver relative to gold is much lower, as a much higher proportion of silver is used in industry compared to gold. I've seen estimates that claim the above ground silver to gold ratio is 11 to 1 or as low as 9 to 1. Using this criteria the price of silver should be $115.12 and $140.7 respectively. Anyway I believe two things are true when it comes to gold and silver, they are both massively undervalued, and silver is massively undervalued relative to gold. Here in this picture I have a 1/4 ounce golden maple leaf, at today's price it is valued at about $316.58, with that same amount of money I could purchase about 18 troy ounces of silver and two 90% silver quarters and one dime. Just look at how tiny that piece of gold is compared to all that silver!
