As the sun sets over Hanle Monastery in Ladakh
Located in the cold desert of Ladakh, Hanle is one of the most beautiful and soul stealing places on this earth. It is one of my favorite places to travel and each time I travel to Ladakh, I make sure I pay my tribute to the magnanimous beauty of Hanle. The village is small and houses a lovely monastery from where you can get some breathtaking aerial views of the whole village. Hanle is also the home for the Indian Astronomical Observatory, which is the highest observatory in the world at a staggering height of 4500 Mtrs. The observatory has an installed telescope of about 2.01 meters (6.5 feet) diameter.
