Censorship causes many issues in today's society and is often done in to silence a group of people. Today, censorship is also often used to silence an opposing opinion and used to make one believe the sole belief. It has become an increasingly growing issue that has led to much political unrest and distrust in our government.
Regarding Dan Hensley and his platform 3peak and game Ragnarok, I will say I am somewhat confused. I am completely new to blockchains, cryptocurrency, and NFT’s and while after hearing Hensley speak I did grasp a better understanding, I am still lost in many areas.
To the first start with 3speak. After listening to Hensley speak I did research 3speak to the best of my ability to help me better understand his platform and how it fights against censorship. I found his platform to be very similar to youtube in how creators generate money. As I mentioned, cryptocurrency is new to me so I am unsure of its value compared to the USD, nonetheless, I did like how the platform shows the amount of crypto generated by each video. The idea is very transparent and can definitely be seen as an incentive to post on the platform. Hensley also mentions that in order for your video to be posted you must have your server running and when it is not the video cannot be watched. However, there is the option to allow others to store your video for you and earn crypto in return. Seeing as I am new to this, I am not quite sure he wanted the app to be formed this way, if his goal was to more so stop censoring and promote a community mindset, it seems to be more focused on currency and ownership. Overall, I hope that 3speak grows to become a bigger platform and that it achieves its goal of reducing or possibly eliminating censorship.
I also wanted to mention the Ragnork game that Hensley is creating. Similar to 3speak I found the idea to be very complex and possibly only target a niche group of people. But as mentioned, that is somewhat the point of the game. The idea that the game should be for the best players and for the majority of the users to be spectating is a very cool idea. Creators all across youtube make millions playing video games for a living, so making a game specifically meant for spectating is a great idea. He also says that the inceptive to playing and winning is NFT’s (or possibly cryptocurrency). NFT’s are again… very confusing to me since the importance of wanting to own a photo, video, or audio is strange to me. While I am yet the learn about the capabilities of NFT’s they obviously hold value, and would make a good prize for the Ragnarok game.
Finally, Dan Hensley introduced me to new ideas on how censorship can be combated, and that by creating a more community and incentive-based platform ideas are able to flow more freely.
