This post is a response to the question ["Are there any positives to having a socialist government?"] (@hattiehughs14/week-04-questions-reality-of)
I believe that there is benefits from many different types of political and economical beliefs, including socialism. I think it could be beneficial in the sense that there is not a monopoly seen in socialism that is fairly common in the US with capitalism. I think it would be beneficial to almost sort of prevent ideas from being stolen in a way that you see in capitalism, as everyone involved in the project can benefit from this view. This connects to the huge gap in wealth in America, as there are many rich people that make a very high income, but there are even more people under the poverty line leading to a very high range of pay. With socialism, there wouldn't be people (at least not as many) suffering below the poverty line and there would be safety nets like welfare and unemployment that are often denounced and looked down upon in capitalist governments. This also connects to the free healthcare that is provided in a socialist economy. Free healthcare is something the US is currently fighting for and struggling with, and it can be seen as beneficial because healthcare is so expensive. It prohibits a lot of people from getting needed healthcare that would benefit their lives, and would improve health for a lot more people. Another beneficial thing from socialism is how it encourages everyone in a society and leaves no room for anger, jealousy, and resentment. Socialism places everyone on an equal playing ground, not allowing for one person/entity to dominate the others which therefore encourages everyone to help each other succeed. Socialism could be beneficial and create a more harmonious seeming society, however there are also many issues and failings just like any other political/economical ideal.
