This post is a response to the question, "NFTs were first made in 2015, but it took until 2021 for them to gain popularity, why is this?" I think that the reason why they are more recently popular is because of the advancement in technology. In 2015 we had a decent technological system, but it has improved since 2015. Due to the improvement in technology, I believe that it has led for NFTs to gain popularity since they are digital. I also believe that due to Bitcoin, the value for NFTs has increased. Bitcoin was created in 2009, so much earlier than NFTs, but Bitcoin also has just recently gained popularity. I assume that people have researched Bitcoin and while doing so, gathered more information about NFTs. Several years ago, I don't think people would care as much to buy a piece of digital art as much as they do now. I think that people several years ago would have much rather preferred to go to museums instead of buying digital artwork. In this day and age, I believe that the preferences have changed.
Having an NFT allows one to say that they own an original copy of art. To me, this is a pretty cool aspect of NFTs. I have always admired art and I know how cool it would be to own my own piece of art. More young people I think enjoy art, and so they are more likely to invest in NFTs. Young people are also in tune with technological advances, so I think that in recent years, the age and love for art has helped spur a desire to have NFTs. With a space to create art, I think that also makes NFTs more appealing to invest in compared to Bitcoin, since it is something that seems of more value. It's almost as if you are paying for something that is actually tangible.
