Tucker: The man and His Dream
Overall, this movie is the best one yet out of the others we have watched, and it taught and shows a lot of things about entrepreneurship and how society can be on the other side. One of the main things that stood out to me that has to do with entrepreneurship and society was when Tucker started getting big off his car and he went to the big dogs for help and money, and they helped him but not for long. Then in the long run they end up trying to steal his car design and how it’s designed and accuse him of fraud. This right here really struck me and shows that no matter how good your product is or whatever you’re trying to sell that the people aka the society are always going to have somebody against you. This is exactly what happened to Tucker in this movie he had a genius idea in which he used creative destruction on the other company like the big 3 and made his idea better and the big companies didn’t like him doing it, so they tried to steal the design and change all his stuff and hard work. Another part that was interesting to me was at the end of the movie when he is going through all the trials and court, he is seen drawing and you don’t know what it is but then at the end of the movie, he says he has a new idea the mini fridge that can hold 2 things of milk for people in poor countries. This showed how a successful entrepreneur like Tucker thought because no matter the outcome of the trial he was already working on a backup plan or his next invention. This is related to entrepreneurship because you should always have a backup plan if the first one fails even if you don’t know the results of the first one still be considering what’s next.
This movie related to the class discussions and the readings a lot throughout the whole movie. I think the main one that stood out to me the most was creative destruction because tucker saw what people wanted and that the present cars didn’t have, and he created something that would satisfy those wants. A lot of the things you saw in the movie are in cars today because of him and his entrepreneurial mind. He got rid of the old with the new which is creative destruction. Another thing that also goes along with that is value which is also something discussed at the very beginning of the year, but Mr. tucker saw how much people would value those key parts in his car, so he made sure that he implemented them. One of the biggest things about this movie that goes along with class discussions and readings is opportunity cost. Tucker had to take a lot of opportunity costs throughout the movie for him to be able to accomplish his dream of building a car. The biggest opportunity cost was the big warehouse he was giving up in exchange for a great amount of money for something he saw way more value in which was the cars. The last thing that we recently just talked about in class was opportunity, Tucker saw the opportunity to build this car of the future before anybody else could. He saw how the people would value it more than the other cars and be willing to exchange their money for greater value than anything else for this car.
