When Frederic Bastiat says “Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws”, do you agree with this statement in terms of today’s society? If you do agree, which aspect of the three is the most suppressed by laws? If you disagree, which aspect of the three is helped by the law?
The idea of redistribution of wealth, also known to Bastiat as “legalized plunder”, has been promoted by many different politicians throughout the past few decades. What is a redistribution of wealth policy that you believe would help the economy and the well being of the people? What is a policy that would inevitably hurt the people or the economy?
Do you think that a society/economy could be successful with no use of involuntary means, or “legalized plunder”? In other words, could people eventually buy into the idea of everyone acting on voluntary means to produce their own individual wealth? Will “legalized plunder” always be an aspect of modern economies?
