This post is in response to the question put forth by @moneybagley . "With countries and economies becoming successful using socialism, what parts of American culture keep the country capitalist?"
The modern-day American society almost resembles a socialist country. However, the culture of America isn’t fully allowing the country to completely dive into socialism just yet. Americans still favor capitalism over socialism. The people of America are in charge. The government doesn’t have full control, and they never will with how the country was built by our founding fathers.
Another reason why America will never be a socialist country is the benefits of being a capitalist society. Capitalism is the root reason why America became the money-making superpower it is today. Capitalism has made America the richest country in the world and the leader of the global economy. America is without a doubt a capitalist country. Our trade and industry are controlled by private owners. In a socialist country, the government controls all trade and industry. Over the years, the people of America have gotten used to this idealism. Americans have built businesses and industries that have given them success beyond their wildest dreams. They don’t want to live in a society that doesn’t give them the ability to achieve that kind of success.
Secondly, religion is also an important reason why the American people won’t allow their country to turn to socialism. Most of the people living in the United States are Christians. Christians believe wholeheartedly in free will. A country built on capitalism all but eliminates its citizens' free will. Socialism also creates a society that removes family and marriage. A socialist society is all about doing what you need to do in order to benefit yourself. A regular Christian would completely disagree with this.
Lastly, there is a track record of countries that have converted to socialism have failed tremendously. Americans fear this failure. It’s by far the main reason why the US will never fully convert.
