For my discussion paper, I am discussing the movie “Tucker: A Man and His Dream”. Entrepreneurs are very elaborate thinkers, so Entrepreneurs tend to follow their paths thinking of different ways to carry out ideas and theories. The aspect I find so Entrepreneurial in the movie has relation to Tucker taking huge risks and bringing it upon himself to follow through with these risks before other producers decide to do so. Entrepreneurship is a gambling game, playing with money and risking materials for things they may not be fit for which some creators tend to not realize from the beginning. Being the risky businessman Tucker is, he began listing things on the car and declaring that the car would be finished by a certain period before he and his crew even had any idea of how they would produce the car. With the little time they had, they were forced to first produce the car out of junkyard scraps and repurposed metals. Given the short time, Tucker had received he chose to make the best out of his options, hiring the first designer he came in contact with. Tucker's son also took part in building the car along with more of Tucker's Family members. The car was pieced together just in time for the big reveal with a little stalling of course after the car was unable to roll forward because of the rear-mounted engine and the fire that had occurred from the leaking fluids on the car. Up to this point in the movie, there were lots of hiccups preventing Tucker and his men from unveiling the car sooner than expected like the head designer changing some of the main details of the car which Tucker was very pleased with. This is very common for Entrepreneurs and most of the time you are either forced to find a way around these problems or you may fail to go along with your business.
I find this movie interesting because of the relationship Tucker can gain with his consumers and competitors. Most of the decisions Tucker makes in the movie are very unorthodox or unethical and although these decisions may not be the first thing that comes to mind when producers are gathering thoughts, these decisions are what makes Tucker a very well-known Entrepreneur. Tucker's odd or different ways of thinking helped him create positive and negative relationships with consumers in the auto industry. Tucker was given opinions on his car by other individuals in the industry and was even threatened by some, Tucker's main focus was to make cars for people and their safety instead of people and their money.
For the 3rd question or aspect regarding the movie, Tucker's main concern was not only to build cars for people but also to show people he truly cares about their well-being and safety in the car he manufactures. In the beginning, Society is outraged because the other competitors chose to create lies about Tucker and his company, doing anything they can to make Tuckers Automobiles Company seem like they are in the wrong. Finishing the movie, Tucker was convicted of crimes he was not rightfully accountable for and chose to explain his feelings regarding why he started the car company in the first place. Entrepreneurs are problem solvers and negotiators which is exactly what Tucker did, Tucker changed the relationship with society from a negative perspective to a positive perspective allowing for the allegations to be dropped and the accusers to face the consequences. Society shapes all businesses, allowing them to grow and receive feedback. Without society nobody would be able to make it throughout the business industry, this feedback can be seen as a mutual exchange because the manufactures are receiving feedback and the consumers are receiving their products.
