What happens in this movie and why is it entrepreneurial?
This whole movie is about innovation and how it can solve some of the worlds largest problems. In this documentary we look at four companies that could potentially end: organ wait lists, solve hunger, reduce atmospheric carbon, and help the seas. Innovation comes with a lot of risk and each of the companies have come to a problem with that. We see many amazing entrepreneurs in this documentary who have done great things but all eventually run into the regulatory system that delays their success.
Why is this film interesting?
In this film we got to see inside big businesses that are truly trying to make a difference throughout the entire world. Seeing the effort, skill, education, etc. it takes to run such a business is incredible. But, also seeing the ways a world changing business can be delayed is just as interesting. This film also showed that entrepreneurs are the people who change the world. Where would the world be without entrepreneurs?
How does this aspect of entrepreneurship affect society?
Each and every business in this film (cultured meat, 3D printed organs, aquaculture, and carbon capture) affects society in extreme ways. Cultured meat would help world hunger and do it humanely. Within the next 30 years the way we are producing meat will not be possible, and that will greatly hurt society. 3D printed organs would end all of the organ wait lists. This would save many of the thousands of people's lives who are on that list. Aquaculture allows us to get and produce food from the ocean while cleaning the ocean at the same time. With how bad our oceans are this would make a huge impact. Carbon capture, this invention that removes carbon from the atmosphere a thousand times more than an organic tree can is huge. This would help control climate change. Overall, this entire film is how to impact and improve society overall in enormous ways.
How does society affect this aspect of entrepreneurship?
Each of these business and potential world changing entrepreneurs run into a similar problem, a regulatory system that delays their success. Society is what determines an entrepreneurs success. An innovation has to bring value to society and it also has to go through more difficult parts of society such as legal requirements and laws. Each of these businesses bring great value to society, however none of them are in full effect due to regulations.
What is the interaction between this aspect of entrepreneurship and society like?
Each of these business interact with society in slightly different ways but they are bring much value to society. Cultured meat interacts with society through the protein that they eat. Saving animal lives and allowing enough food for everyone on the planet is the interaction that occurs. 3D printed organs interacts with society when they offer a new organ without a wait and save someones life. Aquaculture interacts with society when we are able to eat sustainable and organic food from the ocean while cleaning it at the same time. Having clean oceans affects animal and humans in many ways. Lastly, carbon capture interacts with society by cleaning the air we breath and also having more control over climate change. All of the entrepreneurs in this film have found ways to positively interact and affect society.
