Take your pick
I've used various guitar picks (plectrums, plectra), but not any of the current crop of 'boutique' picks. I'm interested to hear if anyone uses them and what you think makes them worth the money. Is it about the feel, the sound or some combination?
Picks have generally been disposable and they are easily lost. Due to problems with my right hand I'm likely to drop them whilst playing. I'd be looking for some that are easier to grip.
Here's some I've seen out there. All images from the respective sites. What have I missed?
Hawk Picks
Hawk use a material which is supposed to be like turtle shell. That was one of the traditional materials, but I don't think you are allowed to use it now as the animals are protected. These cost around £12.
Blue Chip Picks
Blue Chip use a proprietary material that needs to be milled to shape. They cost from around $35 with some more than double that. One of the Six String Bliss presenters had one, but eventually lost it.
V-Picks
V-Picks are made from some form of clear plastic. Some of them are far thicker than conventional picks. Apparently this is good for improving technique. Priced from around $4.
StoneWorks
StoneWorks picks are made from various types of stone. Some use fossils. The budget range start at $10, but the 'collector series' feature some well over $100.
