We're thrilled to share the outcomes of the hackathon we recently hosted at Caracas Blockchain Week. The primary objective of this event was to test the SPK Network testnet, and we must say, the results and engagement have been overwhelming! Here's a recap:
- Innovative Development: A prominent developer who has previously been involved in creating recoverable accounts on Ethereum and smart contracts graced our event. He has now shifted his focus to:
- Hive and LII smart contracts on Layer 2.
- The potential for interoperability that the SPK Network Union indexer brings, especially in facilitating cross-chain posts.
- Collaboration and Bug Resolution: This experienced developer did not just come up with ideas; he actively submitted multiple bug reports. He also partnered with Disregardfiat, addressing and resolving many initial installation issues.
- Security and Infrastructure Improvements:
- Constructive reports suggested enhancements in default port configurations. Specifically, recommendations were made to switch from default install ports (which are often blocked by services like AWS) to alternatives such as NGINX.
- We were also made aware of a potential area of improvement: the current method of public and private key generation. The feedback suggested that keys are not generated in public view and follow a separate route, which might need revision.
- SPK Mining: The event witnessed active participation, with several attendees mining SPK. This reflects the interest and involvement of our community.

In Reflection: Witnessing these innovations and collaborations in real-time was invigorating. While we realize that more internal testing could have been beneficial before launching the testnet in the hackathon, the timing at Caracas Blockchain Week offered a unique and invaluable opportunity. Even if it wasn't perfect, it was a significant step forward in optimizing the SPK Network.
